CORNEA

The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye that has the highest focusing power. The most common disorders of the cornea cause it to lose its clarity and at times become painful. Examples include bacterial infections and ulcers from contact lens overuse as well as viral infections. A weakness of the cornea that people are born with is called Keratoconus which progressively distorts the vision in the late teens through the twenty's. Dr. Hatsis has extensive experience in a procedure called collagen crosslinking, the latest treatment for stabilization of keratoconus. Dr. Hatsis has been treating keratoconus since 2007, longer than any other doctor in Long Island.
